This module is where we learn about measurements for the finishes of a building, staircases, and piling works. I learnt how to measure external and internal brickworks, including the types of bricks and bonds and how they are bonded together. I also learnt the way to measure floor finishes. I realise there is a huge variety of floor finishes, and the thickness of the cement screeding depends on the thickness of the tiles or marbles. Also, there is a use of dividing strips at areas where there is a change of floor finishes. Some parts are quite unique as well, for instance the wash room.

The staircase measurements are a bit tedious and complicated. Some parts are measured in metre run and some in metre square. There are many different types of reinforcement bars in a staircase structure.

Our assignment for this module is a taking off for a bungalow unit. We were tasked to take off 6 items, which are:

1) External Brick Wall
2) Internal Brick Wall
3) External Wall Finishes
4) Internal Wall Finishes
5) External Floor Finishes
6) Internal Floor Finishes

The following is our completed taking off with complete Bills of Quantities:

Discipline Specific Knowledge

Through completing this assignment we reinforced our taking off skills on the finishes of a building.

Thinking and Problem Solving Skills

We bumped into some discrepancies of the drawings and details, and we have to solve the problems to continue measuring.
