In this module we learnt about several aspects of project management, namely Time, Cost, Quality, Risk, Procurement, and Termination. These items are in line with the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK) and are thus in line with the industry standards.

One interesting chapter in the module is time management, where we learnt about the critical path method and how to produce a schedule for a construction project in order to identify the critical path of a project. We also learnt to use Microsoft Project to plot a proper timeline for a construction project. Related to this is the critical and the types of relationship between construction activities.

Another topic is risk management, where we learnt to use the risk matrix to identify the severity and likely hood of risks, from which we identify which risks should be tackled first. This is particularly useful in producing a proper list of risks and assigning different responses to these risks.

In summary, I have learnt a lot on project management through this module, and I can now better understand the perspective of a contractor in a construction project. I would like to thank our lecturer Mr Leong Boon Tik for his dedicating teachings in this module.

Pang Khai Shuen
