It was a Friday morning. We gathered in campus and boarded the bus to Lafarge at 9.00am sharp. Upon reaching the destination at 10am, we were ushered to the Construction Development Lab (CDL)
There, we were given a brief introduction by Yee Yoke Chuan, the Manager (Technical Suport). He introduced us to the Lafarge company as a worldwide franchise and also mentioned that this CDL in Malaysia is one of the only 5 CDLs in the world, and the first in Southeast Asia.
He then brought us to various places in the Lafarge premises, including the lab for mortar and chemical testing, and also 2 identical houses that was built with different types of concretes.
It was a brief tour, but what I learned from this trip is not just about new types of concrete available in the market, but also the importance of innovation to solve daily problems. Even the slightest change in a building material can make a huge change in the way it is used.
