In this module, I learnt the ways to measure a variety of windows and doors. This includes:

1. Aluminium window
2. Casement window
3. Timber louvred window
4. Metal frame door
5. Timber frame panel door
6. Aluminium door
7. Timber roof structure
8. Seeding and turfing

Also,we have learnt to take off several architectural quantities using Glodon, a software for quantity taking-off. We used this software to complete part of our final assignment.

Reflection

First of all, discipline-specific knowledge is the essential component to our learning. I have learnt about the basic components of taking off for windows and doors. I then applied this knowledge to use during our assignment, specifically while using the Glodon Software.

While carrying out our assignment, we had to solve a few problems that includes the discrepancy between the measured items. As we have to measure windows and doors that are already built, the measurements we not exactly in line with one another. We also faced difficulties when utilising the Glodon Software, as we have a few elements in our assignment that were not taught during the classes.

Lastly comes digital literacy. It was a great experience building 3D models out of 2D drawing with Glodon. It was very easy to measure the existing elements and the 3D model made it easier to understand the components of the building.
