Since young, Law has been a very distant subject to me; I was not a big fan of paragraphs and paragraphs of passages and tons of intense memorising. When I came to the knowledge that Introduction to Law is a core subject for Semester 1, I was honestly afraid that I may flunk the subject.

In this module we were introduced to 3 major components: The Malaysian Legal System, Contract Law, and Law of Torts. I started to realise that Law isn't really as hard as I thought it was. Among other things in this topic, I learnt about the type of Law Malaysia is practising, the hierarchy of the Legal System in Malaysia, and also the various levels of courts and how they differ from one another. These things are interesting to me as I always wondered why people to go specific courts for specific cases when I watch the television.

Next we arrived at Contract Law. The first thing that shocked me was that we needed to memorise sections of Contract Law 1950. There were 7 components of forming a contract, namely: Offer, Acceptance, Consideration, Intention, Capacity, Consent, and Certainty. Each and every one of thee sub-topics have a few clauses of their own that we need to remember to support our argument. It was difficult at first but in the end  I managed to overcome the difficulty in remembering the clauses.

Last but not least the Law of Torts, which is for me the most interesting part of this module, Basically, Tort Law governs legal relations not covered by contractual obligations; It is the protection of our civil rights. Some Torts include Negligence, Nuisance, Strict Liability and the like. I realise that as long as we can prove the essential elements in the Law of Torts, we will have an arguable case against someone who violated our rights, be it to our own land or our own body.

All in all, I feel grateful to learn about the basics of laws that will be helpful in protecting my right in the future. I am confident that knowledge in this field will help me in my future profession as a Quantity Surveyor.
