This module was an eye-opener for me. In our daily lives, we always take things for granted. We learnt about the diversity and variety of building materials that we see everyday in life, and yet we do not know enough about it.
One of the sections I like the most in this module is the blast furnace. Although it seemed like loads of chemistry at first, I found the process of making metal interesting. Metal is one of the most common materials we use today, and it is a shame for us to not know enough about where it came from.
Another topic I like the most is, surprisingly, concrete! I can't believe I once thought that cement is the same thing as concrete. This topic really gave me an insight to the myriad variations of concrete and how they differ from one another. It is also interesting to learn about the various admixtures and different concrete compositions.
In a nutshell, I am grateful to learn about different kinds of building materials and expanded my knowledge on their usage in the construction industry.
